Subject: The gene
I love your blog and look forward to it every week.
Do you think some folks are born with a gene that makes them mentally stronger than others? You know, where no matter what happens, they can see the right path clearly, are strong within themselves, are self assured and can stay on their path and do what is required?
I'm somewhat adrift with the contradictions and complexities of this life and thought you may be able to shed a little light with your thoughts on this.
Dear Jodhi,
Thanks for reaching out. Do you mind if I thanked you for reaching out? I had a technical support guy say that to me in the United States once. It made me want to really mess up his chakras. Working with computers in different countries challenges even the most serene of minds.
I do appreciate your question.
In my country, there is a city where everyone is enlightened. To consult with the great wise ones who live in this mountainous region on behalf of a non-national goes against all protocols. However, it satisfies every reason why I created this yogaleaks forum. We need to share the love. And the wisdom.
So yesterday I hiked up to Sky City on your behalf. I had an audience with the highest being of them all. His name is... well, I can't really tell you his name, because it is a symbol. We also call him The Man Formerly Known as Roger. Yes, I know. An artist in one of the western countries stole the idea from our wise ones. Those who live at Sky City continue to be very amused by him. There is a whole series of jokes that they share at his expense. Like your version of A man walks into a bar...
As for The Man Formerly Known as Roger, You only need to think of his symbol and he will hear your call. Thinking of him too much bothers him though -- especially when he is in the bathroom. It’s better you don’t abuse it.
He sounded just like the narrator from Monkey: a kind, gentlemanly voice of a man who speaks with a Chinese accent. I don’t know what it is with enlightened people. Even in my nation, they all start to speak with an Eastern accent.
I asked him your question. His answer came in the form of a metaphor. Here is what he said:
When a lake is still, it will reflect the image of a full moon perfectly. However, if you throw pebbles into the lake, the image of the moon becomes distorted.
The lake is like the mind. If you still the mind, the reflection of the world around you is clear, and so is your path and purpose. Some people keep throwing stones into their lake, and can not see their way in life.
Some are born with a mind more or less still, depending on how much work they have done in past lives to still their senses. But it doesn’t matter. You have time now to make your mind as still as the lake which reflects the full moon.
Learn to be quiet inside and you will find your way.
The Man Formerly Known as Roger then excused himself and hurried away. His minder told me that he was late for his hair appointment.
I hope this answer helps you Padawan Jodhi. May you find more stillness in your life. Make the time. Nothing is as important.
Having cultivated close relationships with world leaders, I observed that people look much more confident than they really are. You may be believing everybody’s poker face; graceful swans gliding past you.
Underneath, where you can not see, they are all paddling like crazy to make their demeanour effortless.
In service,
Presidentess
