Shhh. I am the Presidentess of a secret island nation. My country is so advanced, we have long rid ourselves of health issues, power struggles, arms races ('cause arms don't race that fast), animal abuse, and, of course, bacon. Now is not the time to withhold all that I know, and so I blog.

SECRET NATION EXPOSED!

The Presidentess takes questions through the contact page.  Do you want to know more about her nation; maybe you have a health or lifestyle question?  She will do her best to answer them here.

Why we get sick

Q:  Dear Presidentess,  Do you think that all sicknesses come from emotional issues, or sometimes the physical body is run down and just gets sick?     Linda

A: Linda,  You might know by now that you are not just a physical body.  There are three parts to you:  the physical, mental and spiritual body.  Don’t you hate it that this will complicate things?!

In short, the imbalance of one of these realms will place stress upon the whole being and symptoms will arise.  For example an executive may face grueling deadlines with his work; he crawls over broken glass, and destroys good will to achieve them.  His mental stress will produce imbalance in his physical and spiritual bodies too.  A pure diet and daily exercise will help cushion the amount of stress that he takes on before he breaks.  However, his health will deteriorate anyway.  A sickness can be a great teacher to assist us in putting our three “houses” in order, and to deliver balance to our lives.

The subject of why we get sick has multiple facets, as you may imagine.  Future articles will address many of them, such as understanding Ayurvedic Doshas, and ways of the Chinese 5 Element System.

Why yoga is not making me more flexible

Q:  Dear Presidentess,  I have been practicing Yoga for a long time. I try not to have any attachment to the fact that I am not

flexible but after all these years I am still so tight!  I am also a stiff and rigid in character; everything has to be structured and ordered -a little bit OCD.

Is my physical tightness just a reflection of that? Is there something that I need to learn before my body will relax? Or are some bodies just tight?     Linda

A:  Dear Linda,  A quick story to illustrate my answer:  I have a little girl, Pyrite and a little boy Ouro.  As a baby, you could take Pyrite and roll her up, bend her and stretch her into the cutest positions as her muscles were so soft and supple.  Her personality was creative, and she’s a bit of an airhead.   Ouro, my baby boy, is heavy and solid, with a very noticeable difference in flexibility.  His personality from the start has been all about order, control and method.

Our bodies do reflect our personalities.  What is great about yoga, however, is that it does bring flexibility - mental and physical - to people who may possess a more rigid constitution.  And for air-heads like my little perfect Pyrite, it brings structure and grounding. Their yoga practice will strengthen and support their hyper-flexible joints (and hyper-flexible minds).  Balance comes to everyone.
